the runaway bride
so i’ve gone through all the tags, read what everyone else has to say and now these are my thoughts.
mickey is so desperate to keep ian around - he can’t bear the thought of him leaving again and his life being so shit. he doesn’t want a kid or a wife or to live in fear the way he has been probably his whole life. he still shows signs of being an abuse victim - his reflex when that guy went to wake him up came off as funny but also really sad and showed a lot of fear. because mickey puts on such a front sometimes it’s easy to forget how much he’s gone through and the internal struggles he faces every day about his sexuality.
i think he’s doing whatever he can to make ian stay - giving ian coffee, sleeping next to him on the floor like a guard dog, giving him blowjobs whenever he wants (apparently he hasn’t done that before?? important new piece of information!!), hanging out casually in ian’s kitchen with his family, going to work AT A GAY CLUB with him, kissing him in public, realising or accepting that they’re pretty much a couple. he’s putting his all into making this work this time. ian leaving really made mickey realise what he lost and i think at the moment he’s in denial about what’s actually wrong with ian - mickey probably thinks that he broke ian and now he’s trying to fix him and treat him right. (but there’s going to come a point where ian goes off the rails and mickey will probably be in the firing line)
mickey’s a protector of the people he loves. it comes back to what noel said about the inner circle - he wanted ian to be in it but he just couldn’t, and now mickey’s choosing to make ian the centre of his circle, he doesn’t care about anyone else. the fact that he had to try and make this marriage/pregnancy work and now he’s completely given up on it because of ian is so telling about his true feelings. he’s missing the birth of his own child to go to a gay club and watch the guy he loves dance for creepy strange men. he never would’ve done that before and i feel like a proud mama bear watching him grow up and come into his own a little more :’)
Verity Lambert: I tell you, the real revelation for me was Billie Piper.
Russell T Davies: For all of us, for all of us. Bless her!
Verity Lambert: I thought she was just brilliant. The thing about her is that she never seems to stop, she always plays it for real, which is just wonderful.
Russell T Davies: She does that 100% of the day, every day. Never had a bad day with her. Everybody has a tired day or a sleepy day, even the best actors in the world – but never with her. Quite extraordinary, the commitment.

Lupita Nyong’o at the 86th Annual Academy Awards.
All this has happened before, and it will all happen again. But this time it happened in London. It happened on a quiet street in Bloomsbury. That corner house over there is the home of the Darling family. And Peter Pan chose this particular house because there were people here who believed in him.
